This week we worked on the part of the dance that will focus on the murder and trial. Using duets choreographed a few weeks ago we spoke words from the witness statements at the trial. Then the dancers created repetitive, personal phrases where the ideas were worked over as if reliving memories from the murder. Fragmented whispered phrases overlaid the gestures and meandering – ocd nineteenth century style…
Once the hard work was over we headed down to the Exeter Phoenix Cafe where there were drinks and food laid on for the Opening of the exhibition. Our friends and family joined us, as did Tony and his wife from the Heritage Lottery Fund committee – who came to celebrate with us and find out more about the project.
Rob Darch took photos as part of the project’s documentation. See the attached for his – I think its very easy to tell the difference on this blog between the ones he took and we’ve taken! www.robertdarch.com
At this point now my role (Catherine Cartwright – visual artist, www.catherinecartwright.co.uk) takes a back stage position as Lizzy (Swinford) concentrates on working with the girls to bring the performance together. The dates for June are almost confirmed, so its all hands on deck now. The work in the exhibition will also form part of the scenery for the performance. They’ll be adapted from 2D wall hanging silhouettes to free-standing stage images.
