Up is one of Pixar Disney’s latest animations, available in 2D or 3D. It is a beautiful, warming film that left myself feeling attached to the characters that appear throughout the journey.

We first meet the main character, Carl Fredericksen, as a young boy who dreams of being an explorer, this passion of his leads him t the love of his life, Ellie. They make a great team and go on to spend their lives together, they dream of an adventure in the wilds of south American jungles, but jobs and health problems hold them back. Before they know it they are growing old and soon Carl is left a widower with just a house full of beautiful memories.
All of this back-story is told in no more than the first 20 minutes of the film, this is a reason we become so attached to the characters, we get to see all the key moments in their life in such a short space of time.
Carl’s home turns out to be right in the path of new construction, the old man is unable to stand up to those who want to take his house, Carl desperately doesn’t want to lose his house which is the only thing he has left of Ellie. But he finds a way to kill two birds with one stone; he ties hundreds of balloons to his house and sets off to fulfil Ellie’s dreams, with his house in tow. However, things aren’t always as simple as they first seem, as Carl is soon to find out.
Up is certainly a film that plays on your heartstrings, but perfectly balanced with great humour provided with a little help from a very loyal little dog, and a young wilderness explorer (not unlike Carl himself as a young boy).
Up is really storytelling at its best, this adventure film is a great mix of action and thrills with comedy and suspense. Which i think is a great achievement, especially for an animation!
